Intellectual Property(IP) Day - Our recent performance in IP

About World Intellectual Property Day

On April 26 every year, we celebrate World Intellectual Property Day in order to promote discussion of the role of intellectual property in encouraging innovation and creativity. World IP Day 2013 focuses on Creativity: The Next Generation.  WIPO's member states designated April 26 – the day on which the WIPO Convention came into force in 1970 – as World IP Day with the aim of increasing general understanding of IP. Since then, World IP Day has offered a unique opportunity each year to join with others around the globe to discuss and demonstrate how IP works to contribute to the flourishing of music and the arts and to driving the technological innovation that helps shape our world.

Mansoor Nadeem Lari, head of Kalatmak Handicrafts SHG Foundation explained, "(The Persian) 'Zardozi' means embroidery in gold and hence it was the royal families, including those in the Mughal period, which employed this craft." At present, scores of items are used as embellishments, depending upon the requirement and, rather than gold, ordinary material the colour of gold is employed instead, wherever needed.

As per Textile Ministry estimates, 1.75 lakh artisans in and around Lucknow are involved in the craft, while more than 2 lakh are directly involved, Lari said. "There are more than 10,000 micro and small enterprises in this region, which are involved in making of Zardozi products like apparel, home furnishings, shoes, bags, which are sold throughout India and exported to different parts of the world.
