Civil Service Exam toppers in 2017 (CSE-2016)


The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declared the final results of the civil services examination 2016 on 31-5-2017. The civil service exams were conducted in August 2016 for which 11,35,943 candidates applied and over 4 lakh candidates appeared for the exams. About 15,452 candidates qualified for the main written exam that was conducted in December 2016 of whom 2,961 qualified for the Personality Test. A total number of 1099 candidates have been recommended for appointment among whom are 500 candidates from the general category and 347, 163 and 89 candidates from the OBC, SC and ST categories respectively.They include 44 physically handicapped candidates (22 orthopedically handicapped; seven visually challenged and 15 hearing impaired). The top 25 candidates comprise 18 men and 7 women.

Rank-1 : Nandini K R, who hails from Karnataka, has topped the exam in her fourth attempt. Nandini got 849 rank in the 2014 civil services exam and was allotted IRS (Customs and Central Excise). She had taken the exam again in 2015 but could not crack it.

Rank-2 : Anmol Sher Singh Bedi (23 yrs) is the topper among male candidates securing overall second rank in his first attempt. He is an engineering graduate in computer science from BITS, Pilani.

Rank-3 :  Ronanki Gopal Krishna (30 yr) from Palasa in Srikakulam district has bagged the 3rd rank. Gopala Krishna Ronanki's parents are agricultural labourer, did not even have electricity at home or enough money to send him to a private school. Ronanki has been a teacher in a primary school for the last 11 years.As a secondary grade school teacher, Ronanki appeared for his graduation privately from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, and completed his B Sc (MPC). As he had done schooling and intermediate course in the Telugu medium, Ronanki chose Telugu literature as his optional in the civils (mains). He was also allowed by UPSC to appear for the personality test in Telugu with the help of the Telugu interpreter.
